TESOL Kurdistan Association’s first international symposium was an ABSOLUTE SUCCESS.
With about 500 in-person and 215 online participants (from other TESOL associations in Europe, Middle East and USA), the symposium hosted experts in the field of teaching English as a second language from different universities in Kurdistan (15 private and governmental and many other educational institution), USA and Canada.

We’re thrilled to introduce Dr. Jaffer Sheyholislami, one of our esteemed keynote speakers for the upcoming TESOL Kurdistan International Symposium!
Dr. Sheyholislami is a Full Professor at the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. His research portfolio centres on applied linguistics, critical discourse studies, sociolinguistics, and language policy and planning. Professor Sheyholislami is the author of Kurdish Identity, Discourse and New Media (Palgrave 2011) and has co-edited a special issue of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language (2012). He has authored over three dozen research papers featured in peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Language Policy, Language and Politics, Journal of Canadian Applied Linguistics, and Discourse and Society) and primary edited volumes, including The Handbook of Linguistic Human Rights (Wiley 2022), and The Routledge Handbook of Language Policy and Planning (Routledge 2024). His publications have been translated into diverse languages, including Kurdish, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, and Tibetan. Sheyholislami is the co-editor of the forthcoming volume Oxford Handbook of Kurdish Linguistics.
