Abstract: This session explores how poetry can be brought to life in the classroom, helping students connect with language, culture, and social issues in meaningful ways. Using powerful poems such as Originally by Carol Ann Duffy, Neighbours by Benjamin Zephaniah, and The Day War Came by Nicola Davies, participants will discover creative strategies for exploring themes like identity, migration, and empathy. The session includes activities to spark discussion, build critical thinking, and inspire creative outputs such as found poetry, dramatization, and visual representations. Attendees will leave with practical tools to engage students in reading, analysing, and writing poetry, fostering deeper understanding and emotional connections through the power of verse.
